Shop with Purpose this Christmas

“No person was ever honored for what he received. He was honored for what he gave.”    -Calvin Coolidge

It is easy to get distracted at Christmas by all the flashing lights, the black Friday sales (which seem to start well before Friday), even the sappy commercials advertising yet another item they think you must have under your tree this year. But if you take the time to really focus on the meaning of CHRISTmas, then you know it is about giving because we have already been given the greatest gift of all.

So how can you give this year? It is a simple idea…get, give, give back: shop with purpose this Christmas.

Three years ago for Christmas, my husband and I decided to only buy from companies that give back in some way. It was a challenge at first because we had to do some research, but we soon realized that many companies are giving back with every purchase you make. So if you are going to spend money, why not spend it with people who are doing good things with your money?!? Honestly, it was so much more fun buying gifts knowing we were also helping a cause in some way.

Here are a few companies, some big, some not so big that are really making a difference. I hope you too will decide to get, give, give back: shop with purpose this Christmas. A purpose to help others, to give back, to pay it forward.

CUBCOATS: Partner with Baby2Baby to help low income children ages 0-12, which puts essentials into the hands of kids that need it most. Their sweaters are 2-in-1 since they double as a pillow friend.

SCENTSY: Giving back to the Make a Wish foundation, which makes wishes come true for children battling life threatening illnesses. This super pretty night light and diffuser is perfect for some extra pixie dust in a child’s room (sold through individual consultants).

LOVE YOUR MELON: 50% of the profits from these hats go towards non-profit organizations helping people with cancer, plus they are adorable! They frequently have Disney themed hats, but they sell out quickly, so keep your eye open for them!;)

KIDBOX (Frozen 2): For every box purchased, one box will be donated to a child in need. Love that they do one for one and the items in the box are adorable!

Sweet Charity Clothing Company: I have talked about this company before (here) because I just love everything that the owner, Taryn, is doing to promote giving back. For every item in her shop she picks a different charity to donate proceeds of the sales. Not only is she a mom who knows fashion, but she has a heart of gold and wants to help those in need. And for all my followers she is offering a discount using the code “PrincessMom20.” Here is one of my new favorite looks from her shop. Go now to check it out, things sell out fast!

Toms: With every product purchase, Toms will help a person in need. One for One. Most of us know if you buy a pair of their shoes, a pair of shoes goes to a child in need. But now they are doing the same thing with eyewear (restoring sight for a person in need), bags (providing a safe birth place for a mother and baby in need), coffee (providing safe water to a person in need), the list goes on…

Wounded Warrior Project: Their mission is to “honor and empower wounded warriors.” They strive to bring awareness to the public regarding the health and well-being of injured veterans and provide those wounded with programs and services to meet their needs. Here are a couple of options. This classic swiss army knife

Yoobi: For every purchase of one of their school supplies an item will be donated to a classroom in need, right here in the U.S. A simple, yet impacting company helping one classroom at a time.

31 Bits: I have fallen in love with this company. There service model is to “use fashion and design to empower people to rise above poverty.” They provide work opportunities with fair and sustainable wages for artists worldwide.

Project 7: This company sells gum, snacks, bottled water and clothing. For each product purchased they make donations for items like fruit, trees, meals, digging wells, and providing education.

A few more companies worth mentioning…

International Princess Project: This is a line of loungewear, called Punjammies, that create ways of freedom for women escaping sex slavery. Every pair of punjammies is named after a woman who is now steadily employed in a stable, living-wage job with a Sudara sewing center partnership.

One Hope Wines: With every bottle of wine purchased a part of the sales goes to different charitable organizations. Some of the causes are; Save Our Planet (40,215 trees planted), Provide Clean Water (3,372 people provided with clean drinking water), Help Preemie Babies (64,903 babies provided with diapers), Support our Troops (756 veterans sent aid in natural disaster), the list goes on…

There are so many more amazing companies out there, these are just a few of the ones I have come across while doing my own research. I highly encourage you to get, give, give back: shop with purpose this Christmas. You CAN make a difference with one purchase. Merry Christmas!
