Disney’s Safety Movie Review
“What does sacrifice mean to you?” -Coach from Safety
We were honored to watch an early screening of Safety, a new original film coming to Disney Plus December 11th, 2020. If you haven’t already subscribed to Disney Plus, I highly encourage it! We have been so entertained this entire year with the shows, movies and documentaries, including the newest addition of Safety. I laughed, I cried and I turned it off feeling inspired.
Plot: Based on a true story, Safety is about a former Clemson University football player named Ray McElrathbey. As a young man he encounters a plethora of uphill battles, but his persistence and love for the game help him overcome all his circumstances.
Ray begins his freshman year at Clemson, with a highly saught after spot on the elite football team. But not long into his time on campus, he discovers his 11-year old brother is about to be placed in foster care. The team and entire Clemson community all rally around Ray to encourage and assist him while he also cares for his brother named Fahmarr. It’s a story which exemplifies that failure is not an option even when the odds seem insurmountable.
Rated: PG
Length: 120 minutes
Other: Our kids are 6 and 8 years old and this movie was a little too mature for them. The mother of the boys is a drug addict and has to go to rehabilitation, which was a subject a little too complicated for us. I always say you know your child best, but we chose to watch without them. I would say ages 10 and over might be better suited for this film.
