Celebrating Christmas at Home

“I’ll be home for Christmas”

This post was sponsored by BYUtv, but as always, all opinions and photos are mine.

Since it looks like we will be spending Christmas mostly at home this year (thanks COVID), there are still some simple ways to create wonderful memories together as a family. Here are 9 ways to celebrate Christmas at home…

1. Put on your favorite Christmas music. We decided to watch the Lauren Daigle “Christmas Under the Stars” concert special on BYUtv, which helped put us in the Christmas spirit right away. I have always been a HUGE Lauren Daigle fan, her voice is so unique and easy on the ears. So when I found out she was having a Christmas TV special, I knew we would have to tune in to listen.

The concert is perfect for the entire family to watch, our kids loved listening and dancing around to all the songs. If you have a smart television you can download the free BYUtv app and watch it now. You can also stream it on any smart device such as an iPad, computer or phone. It is completely free to download and watch, plus it is the perfect atmosphere music for celebrating Christmas at home. You can check out the BYU website HERE or CLICK HERE to download the app.

Lauren Daigle also sent us her Christmas CD so we can listen even when we are away from home.

2. Put on your favorite Christmas jammies and slippers. We always like to dress the part, and that even comes to our Christmas pajama game. You can’t go wrong with some matching Santa/elf pajamas and matching slippers for the entire family.

3. Make paper snowflakes. A super simple activity that our kids love and you already have everything you need; paper and scissors, it doesn’t get much easier than that!;) I usually look up an easy tutorial on how to fold them on YouTube and then the kids do all the cutting.

4. Bake cookies or a sweet treat. I pride myself on picking up some easy mixes at the store to keep handy and no one seems to mind the semi-homemade baked goods. No reason to put extra pressure on yourself if you are not a baker, or just don’t have the time or patience to make things by scratch with young kids. Another easy recipe with few ingredients is Rice Krispie treats, add in your favorite Christmas sprinkles to make them extra special.

5. Play a board/card game or do a puzzle. Our kids love playing games and putting puzzles together. It’s such an easy activity to do all together that creates fun memories.

6. Cozy up with some hot cocoa (the bigger the marshmallows, the better). What goes better with your sweet treat than some hot cocoa? Cute mugs are a bonus!;)

7. Send Christmas letters to friends and family. Everyone loves a little bit of snail mail, so why not send someone a little bit of joy in their mailbox?!?

8. Read your favorite Christmas story or re-enact it. Chances are your kiddos know their favorite Christmas story inside and out, so why not let them put on a little show or reenactment.

9. Video conference call with a family member. Even if you are miles apart you can still connect with family this year, thank goodness for improvements in technology!
