Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Movie Review
“Never let your wings be stolen from you.”
Have you seen the first Maleficent? We didn’t until about 6 months ago and we immediately fell in love! It was so unexpected to find out why Maleficent is considered to be “evil.” You actually learn to love Maleficent and have sympathy towards her once you know her story. You can watch the second movie without seeing the first, but I do suggest going back at some point to watch it, because it is so good. I was able to find it at our local library and we watched it as a family (it will also be available on Disney Plus starting November 12th). But without further adieu, I give you Maleficent: Mistress of Evil movie review…
Brief Synopsis: Maleficent; Mistress of Evil picks up where the first film leaves off. We are briefly introduced to a prince in the first film, but spoiler alert, he wasn’t the one that broke the sleeping spell. The love of Maleficent actually breaks the spell of the spinning wheel. When the second film begins we immediately witness the proposal of Aurora to Prince Phillip, which is not the best news to Maleficent. Like a typical over protective parent, Maleficent is not ready to let Aurora out of the nest, and for valid reasons. But sweet and strong Aurora protests that Maleficent goes to meet with the parents of Prince Phillip.
Let’s just say that the meeting of the in-laws goes a little less than ideal, which sparks an old hatred for both parties involved. The Queen, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, takes matters into her own hands to get revenge from an old wound. Aurora and Phillip begin to question if their love has what it takes to bring the two dividing sides back together.
What ages do I suggest seeing the movie? This is a tricky one, so I have a few questions for you…Have your kids seen the first film? How did they do? Our kids LOVED the first Maleficent and did great so we decided to bring them to Mistress of Evil and they both did fine (ages 7 and 5). I always say you know your children the best, so if you have a more sensitive child who does not do well during battle scenes, then I would be on the cautious side and say wait. If your child has seen some Star Wars movies like ours, then these battle scenes probably won’t effect them. It is a darker movie than the first, even more serious too. I always say, when in doubt, leave it out. You can always make it a date night with the hubby or a moms night out.
Length: 1 Hour 58 Minutes

Full review of @Maleficent plus activity pages for your kids! #maleficent #moviereview Click To TweetOther Info: During the movie we are introduced to other creatures that are just like Maleficent. Some of them are pretty intense and have a vendetta against the humans. The relationship between these winged characters and humans have been scarred by decades of misunderstandings, which eventually leads to a very large battle. This particular battle is pretty intense, so you may want to warn your little ones.
We are also lead to believe that by the title Maleficent is the mistress of evil, but by the end, you might have a different opinion who that title is referring to. We are taught that even people who are perceived as “evil” can prove to be trustworthy and kind. While the “good” people may be playing with the dark side and should not be trusted.
I LOVED the message that family can be from all different backgrounds, no matter if you are an animal, creature, human or beast. I will say, I think I loved the first movie a little bit more than the second, only because the entire premise was so new and exciting, but both are still great movies!;)
