What INCREDIBLES 2 Taught Me About Motherhood
“You have more power than you realize. Don’t think and don’t worry. If the time comes, you’ll know what to do.” -Elastigirl
We had the chance to see a preview screening of the new Incredibles 2 Movie and let me just say I was super impressed! I think it’s safe to say I loved it even more than the first one. I was laughing so hard during the entire movie as well as on the edge of my seat from the plot turns and twists.

*Even if you are a super hero, you still struggle with mom guilt. It is inevitable, the pressures we put on ourselves, the incredible amount of guilt, some days it’s insurmountable. The mom, also known as Elastigirl, wants to save the world, but also feels the weight of responsibility when she away from home, leaving the kids with her husband. Isn’t that how most of us moms feel? We want to “save the world” and do incredible things but we also know how much we are needed at home and don’t want to let our own families down. It is reassuring to know this is a universal feeling even super hero’s battle.
*When mom is away things WILL be ok…just done differently. Whenever I leave the house I immediately worry if the kids will eat their dinner, play too many video games or go to bed too late. But after watching Mr. Incredible take care of the homefront it made me realize that things will get done, probably very differently, but still done. A different way isn’t a bad way, it’s just different. It was a good reminder to me to not sweat the small stuff when I’m away.
*Kids love being a part of a squad. As I was watching the 3 young kids on Incredibles; Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack, I was reminded how much kids get a feeling of security and pride when they are able to work together as a team family. My kids are always asking if they can help me do things around the house. Sometimes I don’t always ask for help because I know I can probably get it done faster and more efficiently by myself, BUT they get such a sense of accomplishment when they assist me with a goal.
*It is ok to have a passion outside of your home. For the first year of motherhood I really struggled understanding my new role of a stay at home mom. I loved being there for every milestone, every second of every day, but I was also desiring something outside of motherhood to allow me to be creative (and have adult conversations). Elastigirl reminded me that having a passion outside of my home is healthy for everyone. Your kids see you pursuing a dream and they can admire your tenacity and hopefully appreciate you more when you are home.
