Kids Golf Lessons: The Best Kept Secret

“Success in golf depends less on strength of body than upon strength of mind and character.” -Arnold Palmer

(We were gifted a few weeks of golf lessons, but all opinions are mine)

You may be asking me why I think kids golf lessons are the best kept secret…here is why. Most parents sign their kids up for soccer, baseball, basketball, flag football, gymnastics even, but not too many are signing up for golf. We think of golf as an “old man sport” or something just for the fancy country club people, but it is not that way anymore.

Our son had an interest in golf and I was pretty happy he wanted to play a non-contact sport. We tried soccer and I realized pretty quickly that he was not aggressive enough to keep up with the kids that were really fighting for the ball. He also had a tendency to skip down the field instead of run, so I had a feeling traditional sports were not going to be our thing.

Since my husband doesn’t play golf I took to a mommy facebook group and asked where I could find golf lessons for a 5 year old. When you get the same suggestion from multiple people you know it must be a good instructor and his name is Coach Aki.

Colton began his golf lessons not really knowing anything other than what he had experienced at miniature golf. Coach Aki and his co-teacher, Coach Jai, were so patient with him and made sure he was getting all the information he needed without being overwhelmed.

They set up different games each week to help the kids learn things like putting, chipping, full swing, balance, coordination, etc…Colton took right to the classes and looked forward to going each week.

Kids Golf Lessons: The Best Kept Secret

Another reason why kids golf lessons are the best kept secret; since not too many learn the sport at a young age there are less kids trying to get golf scholarships when it comes to college. And that rate is even lower for female golfers! Plus, that whole “old man sport” mentality is only because it is a sport that you can actually do your entire life and it doesn’t take a toll on your body.

Thanks for the recommendation Princess Turned Mom. I’ve been looking for a quality golf coach in the OC area to put both my son and daughter into. I’ll definitely be calling Coach Aki!
