Our Colton LOVES to climb! He always has, ever since he was a baby. Loves to climb at the park, in a tree, anywhere he can and fear is not an issue for him. About two years ago a friend told us about a rock climbing place with an entire section for kids, so of course we had to check it out. Enter Sender City, the best climbing place for kids in Southern California!

My husband starting off with just taking Colton, since our daughter wasn’t heavy enough to climb yet (you have to be 35 pounds). They were able to go a few times together, making it a super fun Dad/Son outing. Then Covid hit and they had to close their doors for a long time. We kept calling and calling, then FINALLY they were able to re-open. Sound the choir angels singing, because now our daughter was heavy enough to climb too!

Well, the rest is pretty much history, both kids are now obsessed with climbing at Sender City and of course Colton had to have his birthday there this year. We tied in the theme of his favorite show; Lego Ninjago, telling his friends that they would learn to climb just like a ninja. Here are some of the details of the location and decor…

Location:

Sender City at Sender One (Santa Ana). They do have other locations in both Los Angeles and Playa Vista. There are so many different walls and obstacles to climb, it’s not possible to be bored. You get an hour to climb and trust me when I say they will be exhausted after that hour is over!! 

If you are looking to visit, they have a few different options; either a single visit ($29 a climber) or an annual pass ($349 a climber OR $699 for 1-2 parents & 1 child, $99 for each additional child). Don’t forget you do need to make advanced reservations. They also offer climbing academy for kids as well as camp options. Currently, masks are required indoors for ALL guests.

Lego Ninjago Decoration Details

I went pretty simple this time, if you know me I can tend to get carried away with lots of Pinterest crafts. Instead, I focused on easy ideas that wouldn’t take too much preparation. Since it was Lego Ninjago themed I knew I had to include Lego’s of all sizes, bright colors and a few Ninja items. Most items I found on Amazon or at the Dollar Store, which was also super helpful to keep the cost down. The cake and cupcakes I ordered from our local Ralphs grocery store and stuck the Lego lollipops that I found on Amazon in them.

For the kids tables instead of doing party favor bags (which usually end up in the trash a few days later) I picked up one Lego Ninjago book for each child. I found them all on Amazon ranging from $4-$5 a piece. I also found Lego pieces which I placed in the center of the table for kids to build and Lego sippy cups, which I found all at the Dollar Store.

The kids had so much fun, I heard a few say that is was the best birthday party they had ever gone too!;) I think the parents were happy that the kids were all tired out afterwards!;) We will definitely be back to Sender City very soon!
