Finding Exceptional Care with Hope

“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” -Helen Keller

(This post was sponsored by City of Hope, but, as always, all opinions are mine)

What does hope mean to you? The definition of hope is to trust in, wait for, look for, desire something or someone, or to expect something beneficial in the future. I read recently that we would be much better off if we dressed ourselves in hope rather than our hurts. That stuck with me as I imagined getting up in the morning and getting ready, almost arming myself with my hope and belief in goodness, rather than the hurts I may be encountering.

Some of my hopes are short term; I hope I can get the laundry done today. Some of my hopes are long term; I hope that my husband, a fire captain, always stays safe at work, I hope to see my grandchildren be born, I hope my kids outlive me.

Finding Exceptional Care with Hope

Today I am partnering with a place that gives hope to those who have been given a diagnosis and are forced to face uncertainty. City of Hope Orange County, specializing in treating patients with cancer.

Finding Exceptional Care with Hope

I love that City of Hope was founded by an act of philanthropy back in 1913 when a group of volunteers were concerned that their friends and neighbors were being devastated by tuberculosis. Back then they founded the Jewish Consumptive Relief Association and raised money to start a FREE tuberculosis treatment center. That first philanthropic mission still plays an integral part in the hope and care City of Hope provides families to this day.

Recently Larry Zeiber, the Vice President of Philanthropy, was interviewed about his position with City of Hope and the involvement the hospital plays in the community. He was quoted as saying that “The vision of City of Hope Orange County is to bring highly specialized cancer care to Orange County and make it more accessible to the people who need us. Currently, 20% of those diagnosed with cancer in Orange County leave the area for care…by establishing a second campus in Irvine, we are responding to the call of local patients and helping families stay together longer.

And did you know that City of Hope OC has more than 1,000 clinicians and researchers focused on cancer and more than 750 clinical innovative trials are currently underway. Zeiber said that these trials will lead to advanced lifesaving treatments and, one day may entirely eradicate the disease. Can I get a Hallelujah?!?

City of Hope is holding its 25th Walk for Hope, it will take place on November 7th. This is a wonderful chance for the community and businesses to put together teams and walk for a cause. Whether you are a former patient or part of an organization, you can play an important role in bringing advancing care for Orange County and a new level of hope. If you can’t participate in the walk you can also make a donation by visiting their website.

I hope that we never have to face the prognosis of cancer, but if we do, it is reassuring that we have such amazing care right here in Orange County. Thank you to City of Hope for seeing a need in this area and fulfilling it exceptionally. Follow them at @CityofHopeOC.

It’s so true, so many people are still getting cancer, even when our focus has been elsewhere the past year and a half! Important to know where you can find care!
