Super Mario Kart Tournament Birthday Bash
Our son Colton has been obsessed with Super Mario ever since he was old enough to play video games (around the age of 5). He has already had a Mario themed birthday party, which you can read about HERE, but he asked for another Mario party this year for his 11th birthday bash. This time we decided to do a Super Mario Kart Tournament birthday bash! As avid fans of the iconic video game, we decided to take this theme to the next level by creating an unforgettable day filled with races, challenges, and fun.
The Super Mario Kart Tournament:
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Super Mario Kart Tournament. Weeks prior to the party each child picked a character from the game, we then printed out their name with that character for our tournament wall (which was inspired by the Karate Kid movie). We handmade the entire wall where the kids could move their names to the next level as they progressed through the tournament.
Yoshi Egg Hunt:
What’s a Super Mario-themed party without Yoshi eggs? To add an extra layer of excitement, we organized a Yoshi egg hunt in our yard. We hand-painted plastic eggs with colorful polka dots to resemble Yoshi eggs from the game. I also printed off this cute poem from Pinterest to use as decor for the hunt. The kids had a blast hunting for these eggs, and each one contained a small treat. We gave each child a specific colored egg to find to make the hung a little harder for them. I found mystery boxes on Amazon for the kids to collect their eggs in.
Super Mario Movie Screening:
After the tournament and egg hunt, we had plans to watch the Super Mario Bros. movie on an outdoor screen. We thought we would let the kids swim in the pool while having the movie play. But it turns out after all that Mario Kart we started to run out of time, so we decided to save the movie, but it would still make for a fun party activity.
Themed Snacks and Cake:
No party is complete without delicious treats! We had found Mario themed snack bags, oreos as well as fruit snacks. I made a jelly bean plate with the primary colors and topped it with Mario and Yoshi Pez dispensers. We also ordered cupcakes to look like Toad’s and the cake I topped with a “rainbow road” and a few characters.
Super Mario party Decor:
I used Colton’s Yoshi collection for the centerpiece of our decor. That is his favorite Mario character, so it fit perfectly. We added a balloon arch, complete with star balloons that the hubby hand painted with eyes. We also covered a few boxes with wrapping paper to make them into mystery boxes and bricks. To add to the final touch we printed out a few photos for frames of some of our favorite Mario moments over the years along with placing some of Colton’s Mario Lego’s in a few spots. You can shop some of our party supplies and shirts we wore for the party HERE.
Other Mario Themed Activities
While kids were waiting for their turn to play Mario Kart I also had Mario checkers, Mario chess and Mario uno out to keep them occupied.
What did you think of our Super Mario Kart Tournament Birthday Bash? Seeing the kids immerse themselves in the world of Mario Kart and sharing in their excitement was priceless for us. It’s safe to say that Colton had an unforgettable birthday that will be talked about for years to come. Check out some of our other parties HERE.
