Time Well Spent: A Unique Gift

As a parent we often are so overwhelmed by the things that we have to get done in a day. Time never seems to be on our side, in fact it seems to be working against us constantly. There are days where I am pretty sure my only accomplishment was brushing my teeth. But even if I was not able to cross anything off the to-do list (which always seems to grow instead of shrink), the one thing I know that is a priority in our home is making time for fun. Not a day goes by that the kids don’t laugh, play and learn. Even when I don’t have a set project, playdate or specific activity, the kids are making memories.

Time is a funny thing. As adults we realize that we will never get time back, although sometimes we wish we could rewind the clock. Kids have no concept of time and occasionally I like to join their innocent realm and just forget about the dishes in the sink, the laundry in the hamper and the 3-inch thick dust to take the time to be present. Because kids will not remember the messy house, but they will remember if you were there to watch, interact and share in their joys.
