What’s Happening at Disneyland in 2022
“In Disneyland, clocks and watches will lose all meaning, for there is no present. There is only yesterday, tomorrow and the timeless land of fantasy.” -Walt Disney
It’s been a slow come back for Disneyland ever since its reopening last spring, after being closed for a year during the pandemic. But we are finally beginning to look a little more like “normal” with the coming of entertainment and even the food and wine festival. Before we know it we may be able to hug our favorite characters again (this may be wishful thinking, but that’s the way Walt would want it to be I think). I digress, here is a list of what is coming back to Disneyland this spring and the rest of the year.
What is happening at #Disneyland in 2022 Click To TweetTrams are coming back February 23rd: Yahoo!! My feet are so happy about this!!! If you never had to walk the tram route this past year with a stroller full of kids and all the things, then you may not understand my excitement.;)

Closures/Refurbishments:
Toon Town will be completely shut down March 9th and will not re-open until 2023 with the new ride “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.” We have been on that ride in Florida and it is fantastic, I am so glad they are bringing it here! There will also be new play experiences as well as open grassy areas.
Downtown Disney refurbishment started in 2018 with the closure of the movie theaters, ESPN Zone and Rainforest Cafe. It is finally set to begin transformation again (after more negotiations with the city) to create a new “lifestyle space.” This area will have an open lawn for events, with more dining and shopping. Not sure what happened to the new hotel they had originally proposed, I am hoping there will be another spot for this eventually.
Splash Mountain is set for closure (sometime this year) to reimagine the ride to feature the story of The Princess and the Frog. The drawings are beautiful and I can’t wait to see the change. We love the music from this movie and think it is a perfect new fit for Splash Mountain.
Tenaya Stone Spa at The Grand Californian Hotel & Spa (open now). The spa was always there, in fact, I had my Bachelorette party at this location. But it has been given a beautiful makeover. I hope to check it out soon.
Cars Land turns 10 years old June 15th: I remember when Cars Land opened, I was pregnant with our first baby. Hard to imagine it’s already been 10 years!
–> If you are looking for a deal on tickets or hotel stays for a trip to Disneyland, this is one of the best options through Get Away Today. And I recommend getting your tickets with the Genie+ service, which is essentially like Fast Pass used to be. Especially if you are only going to be in the parks 1 or 2 days, you will be able to make better use of your limited time.
