A Visit to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad
“Bloom where you are planted.”
It’s been six years since we have visited the famous Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California, which is technically in San Diego County, but only about 40 minutes south of us in Orange County. The fields were gracious enough to gift us tickets, then we purchased a few extra “experiences” while we were there. Let’s get down to the details so you can plan your next visit (before it’s too late). Here is everything you need to know to visit the Flower Fields in Carlsbad…
When are the flower fields open?
Typically the fields open in March and are open (this year) until May 8th, 2022.
How much are tickets to the flower fields?
Single Day Adult Tickets are $22 (plus a $2.95 service fee), Seniors or Military are $20 (plus srv fee), Children ages 3-10 are $10 (plus srv fee).
Do they have season passes?
Yes, if you would like to go more than once, this is definitely the way to go. Adults are $46 (plus srv fee), Seniors/Military are $42 (plus srv fee), Children ages 3-10 are $20 (plus srv fee).
Do I need to purchase tickets ahead of time?
YES! All tickets MUST be purchased ONLINE in ADVANCE! You can find that link HERE.
What if I have a large group?
Groups over 20 should email info@theflowerfields.com to make a reservation.
Is parking included?
Yes, there are 2 lots to find parking, but it does fill up rather quickly on the weekends, so plan accordingly.
What time are the fields open?
The earliest time slot for reservations start at 9am and the last time slot to enter is 4:30pm.
What is included in my ticket?
Your ticket allows you to enter the flower fields and see the amazing 50 acres of flowers. There are different garden areas to walk through, a sweet pea maze (which our kids loved), a scavenger hunt where kids find certain locations to get their passport stamped and a super cute playground. There was a band playing on the Main Stage when we were there and plenty of beautiful places to take photos.
What else is there to do?
For additional fee’s you can go on a tractor ride around the farm. You can get off half way around and explore the top of the fields, then get back on another tractor when you are ready. Adults are $6 and Kids ages 3-10 are $3. You can go mining for gems at the Carlsbad Mining Company. Our kids always love doing this, it is $3 for kids who have completed their scavenger hunt passport (which is free), $4 for everyone else. Sometimes they also have a U-Pick Blueberries area for an additional $5. This was not open the day we were there and there is no way to plan ahead for this option. There will be a sign out front if the blueberry area is open for that day.
Are there places to eat?
There are plenty of benches and tables around the fields for you to sit and eat. We brought our own food, but there is a pizza trolley which serves pizza, hot dogs, pretzels and drinks. There is also a lemonade stand, ice cream soft serve, strawberry shack and popcorn vender.
Is it busy?
We were there on a Sunday this year and yes, it was very busy, more busy than I had remembered from our visit 6 years ago. Some of the lines for photo spots were quite lengthy and there was a pretty long wait for pizza. I would avoid the weekends if you can, and if not, try to go at the earliest time slot, and pack food.
What else?
There are events that happen throughout the time that the Flower Fields are open. From wine tasting tours to yoga to Easter Sunday services. Make sure to check out their website for more details (some events already sold out for 2022).
Are there other things to do in Carlsbad?
I am so glad you asked!;) I have an entire blog post on other things to do in Carlsbad, plus a hotel that literally has views of the Flower Fields from the rooms. Check that out HERE!!
And just for fun, here is a look at how much the kids have grown since our last visit to the Flower Fields…
