A Stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa

We were hosted guests at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort and Spa for a staycation over our holiday break and we had a fantastic time! Nestled in the hillside of Dana Point, California, the resort overlooks the harbor/marina area with gorgeous grounds and views. We had seen the hotel from a distance, but had never stayed here before. What a treat is was to finally experience this hotel, we truly hope to go back very soon. Here is a little more about our stay…

The Entrance & Lobby

As soon as we pulled up we were pleasantly surprised at the curbside attention we received (and trust me, it’s not because we drive a fancy car). The entrance and lobby were very open and bright with views straight through to the balcony that overlooked the harbor area.

The Restraurants

In the lobby you will find a relaxing cafe called Overdue Lounge & Deck that sells Starbucks coffee & light bites in the morning/afternoon, then tapas and wine and beer in the evening. You can sit on the balcony, or inside by the fireplace.

Downstairs you will enter The Restaurant, which serves breakfast and dinner. We had the privilege of having both meals here and neither disappointed us. In fact, I would go back just for the food, it was THAT good. The atmosphere on the deck area with the fire pits and lights is so dreamy, it makes for the perfect date night. I highly suggest going for a special anniversary, Valentine’s Day or even a Mother’s Day meal.

The Rooms

We were treated to a suite, which had two separate bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a full size living room with balcony. It was so spacious and delightful to have a room for the parents and one for the kids. I always appreciate when hotels have this option for families. The kids room had two full size beds and the other room had a king size bed.

The Views

From our room we had a beautiful view of the pool and the water of the ocean in the distance. Walking the property there were so many gorgeous spots to see the marina and ocean. A perfect place for a wedding or event of any kind. While we were there we actually got to see someone proposing to his girlfriend.

The Pools

There were two pool areas on property; The Del Mar and The Laguna. The Del Mar had a large pool, hot tub, splash pad and shallow wading pool for young swimmers. The Laguna pool was still a good size and had a smaller hot tub.

Activities on Property

We were pleasantly surprised by all of the on-property activities there were for us to do. We enjoyed min-golf, table tennis, swimming in the pools. You could use one of their bikes to explore, or if you are headed to the beach they have boogie boards and paddle boards for use. Like yoga? There is yoga in the park. Like pickle ball? They have lots of courts to play as well as a playground for younger kids.

The Spa

While we were there I got to sneak in a quick trip to the spa and I am already hoping to go back. I had a massage and enjoyed all of the other amenities including the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, relaxation room, outdoor patio, snacks and more.

Nearby Activities/Attractions

There is so much to do in Dana Point and the surrounding areas, I couldn’t list everything. But some of the highlights would of course to have a beach day, enjoy the many walking/hiking trails (see our favorites HERE), shops and restaurants. Forty minutes north you could be at Disneyland, or forty minutes south you could be at Legoland. Check out this page for even more suggestions.
