Turning an Office into a Multi-Purpose Room
“Your home is a living space, not a storage space.”
It was an office, then a guest bedroom, then a place to store all our junk during a remodel, it has been the room that I dread every time I walk into it. But after many years, I finally feel like it is what it is supposed to be, a multi-purpose room.
Turning an office into a multi-purpose room was the best decision we ever made for this space! We still needed a place to have a computer and printer, plus we needed a place for family to sleep while visiting. So after a few tries we found a wall bed at Costco that would fold up when guests weren’t visiting and we would have more space to work on homeschool. I never thought we would be homeschooling, but the year 2020 has definitely thrown us a few surprises and we are just trying to roll with the punches.

So let’s get to the fun part; the before and after photo’s!;) Here is what the room looked like before we remodeled last summer. My husband had actually done all of the Wainscoting a few years back, which I loved, so we tried to keep it even once the wall bed arrived.
Here is the room after we tore out the carpet, but still had boxes from our remodel (and this was actually an improvement)!!
Here is the room after we cleared out the boxes and sold the huge desk. We tried doing a day bed, but it did not fit right, so we sold it about 3 months after I bought it used online. I wasn’t lying when I said we have tried lots of different options in this room!
Then the hubby had to take off the Wainscoting from the one wall to get ready for the bed installation…
After we turned it into a multi-purpose room
And here is what the room looks like once we painted, installed the wall bed and put in a smaller desk area. I linked a few items at the end for your shopping convenience.
We decided to go with a black and white theme and incorporate our love of Disney. I found the wall quote on etsy and it fit perfect on the space above the bed.
On the shelves I used some of our favorite Disney photo’s along with a few Disney books we had around the house and of course some Mickey ears.
The three framed photo’s were something we found while going through my Mother-in-law’s house and I fell in love with them. They are vintage black and white prints of Walt Disney around Disneyland.
