A Mom’s Review of Black Widow

“Before I worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., I made mistakes, but I’m done running from my past. We have to go back to where it all started. We have unfinished business. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a hell of a reunion.” -Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow

Last summer we watched ALL of the Marvel movies in sequence and fell in love with the characters and the storylines. I never would have guessed I would be such a huge superhero fan, but I have definitely become one! We even dressed up as our favorite Marvel heroes for Halloween last year. So we were pretty excited when Disney announced that they would be making a Black Widow movie. There is only one other Marvel movie with a girl as the main super hero; Captain Marvel, so we were ready to see Black Widow take the spot light. Without further delay, here is a mom’s review of Black Widow…

A Mom's Review of Black Widow

Brief Synopsis: Natasha Romanoff, or Black Widow, returns to the screen for her big solo debut. If you have watched any of the other Marvel movies you realize we don’t know much about Black Widow and how she came to be part of the Avengers club. Black Widow takes places BETWEEN Captain America Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War (in case you want to watch the movies in order). In this movie we are given a glimpse into her childhood, how she is trained to be a very skilled fighter and all about her “family.” She must confront her past, while setting the future right. After being separated for years, Black Widow, her sister, mother and father all take on a daring adventure to free innocent girls from the same captivity that they themselves had endured.

Other: Normally this is the part where I give you details on which parts may be scary for young children, or if I think it is a family friendly movie. Here is what I can tell you (without telling you too much), please screen this movie without your children FIRST, then make a decision. Up to this point we had watched every Marvel movie together as a family, but after watching the first 40 minutes together we had to get the kids to bed and I decided to watch the rest of the movie alone. I am not sure I am going to let them finish the movie. Personally, I loved the movie, the action, the bits of humor, all the girl power, but there are definitely parts that were VERY mature for young kids. As always, you know your children best, this is just my personal experience.
