Swim Lessons at Evolution Swim

“Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…” -Dory

(We were gifted these swim lessons, but all opinions and photos are mine)

I hated swimming lessons as a kid. I didn’t like putting my eyes in the water, loathed getting water up my nose or in my ears and didn’t take a liking to the tough instructors. Swimming did not come natural to me, therefore I dreaded going to lessons. I understand why my parents made me go, for the obvious reasons of not wanting me to die if in a pool, but I wan’t happy about it.

Fast forward to today and having kids of my own, I hoped to find the best swim school so they would have the exact opposite experience as me. Well, I found that swim school and could not be more happy with how well our kids have done this past summer.

Evolution Swim, which now has six locations in South Orange County, is the place to go for your little ones to learn how to swim. Their teachers are trained with the in-house curriculum that was originated from the owner, Felipe Delgado, who is a 2-time Olympian. They have swim lessons for ages 3-months and up in their year round facility (in Mission Viejo). The teachers are able to instruct each child with positive reinforcement, making sure everyone is having fun while learning. My kiddos always look forward to their lessons each week, which wasn’t always the case before.

There are seven levels with certain strokes and techniques they must perfect before they can move up. There are four swim safety levels, one development learning level and four stroke technique levels, then an option to join the Gators Swim Team. Our son especially loved the fact that he could move up levels (like his favorite video game) and it gave him something to work towards each week.

The location we visit is kept very clean, has a great viewing area for parents, large bathroom, kids waiting room with Disney Junior playing and a few toys. The pool is kept at a very warm temperature (90 degrees) so that the littles do not get cold, plus even the indoor room is very warm (80 degrees) so when they get out of the pool they are not cold.

The class sizes are very small, usually only 2-4 kids in a class. I was always able to have the kids swimming either one right after the other, or even sometimes at the same time. There are lots of options for class times, which was great especially once we started back to school.

We started our lessons at the end of June and in just 3 months both kids have moved up 2 levels. We have seen a huge improvement in their skills and I feel so much more confident letting them swim even if I am not in the pool with them (although always watching).;) If you are looking for a place to go, I can’t recommend Evolution Swim enough! Thank you so much for having us!
